Why Chin Tattoos?
Whose cultures adorn them and why would anyone claiming to be Native to Southern CA brand themselves with them?
Handbook of the Indians of California
by Kroeber, A. L. (Alfred Louis), 1876-1960

The reader is hereby challenged to find anything in the historical record indicating that any LA Basin Native peoples ever put tattoos on their faces. There do exist records of some Natives of Northern CA that did so, such as Yokut and Maidu (“Handbook of Indians of California,” A. L. Kroeber, pps 519-521), but no documentation has been found to indicate that any indigenous people in Southern CA did so.
Chinigchinich : origin, customs & traditions

For all of the Euro-supremacist observations by Gerónimo Boscana, wouldn’t it seem consistent that he (and his translator) would have included descriptions of something as obvious as facial tattoos in his records?
